ST. EDITH STEIN

Science of the Cross

When the superiors asked Edith to contribute a valuable study for the celebration of the fourth centenary of the birth of St. John of the Cross, in the context of her life situation she discovered the mystery of the cross as the central point of her study. The result was the great book, The Science of the Cross.

Collected Works of Edith Stein - Vol. I: Life in a Jewish Family

“I feel that my mission is about to begin my mission to make God loved as I love Him, to teach Souls my little way”. In answer to the question “what is the little way that she wanted to teach the Souls” Thérèse said: “It is the way of spiritual childhood, the way of trust and absolute surrender”. We come across certain specific explanation of this “little way” in several places in her manuscripts, but the entire book is a lesson in how to live this “way of trust and absolute surrender”. The book “Story of a Soul” contains this lesson. This ‘Story’ has very interesting history. This is the history of a soul who reached God through a little way. This book is translated from the original manuscript by John Clarke, OCD and is published in Washington. And this is the Third Indian Edition.

Collected Works of Edith Stein - Vol. II: Essays on Woman

The last conversation of St. Therese reveals how unselfish was she, how tender were her feelings for others, and how humane had she become. The beauty of this slowly fading Little Flower was that she remained conscious until the very moment of her death, thus making a willing and conscious offering of her entire life with these last words: Oh, I love Him…My God…I love You.

Te hidden treasures in the poems of St. Therese, despite their importance, are the least known among her writings. It is the first time that all her poems are made available in English.
