An Ideal Missionary

In this work the author focuses on the history of the Malabar (Kerala) Church from 1860 to 1877 as he deals with the life and activities of a zealous missionary, Fr. Leopold Beccaro, OCD in Malabar / Kerala who was the confessor and spiritual director of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. This study looks into the foundation and development of the Syrian Tertiary Congregation (at present known as Carmelites of Mary Immaculate - CMI), the foundation and development of the first indigenous Congregation for women (presently existing as two Congregations: Congregation of the Mother of Carmel - CMC and Congregation of the Teresian Carmel - CTC), Rockos and Mellus schisms, petition movement for and against the division of the Vicariate of Verapoly according to the Syrian and Latin rites, disciplinary action against the petitioners, two apostolic visits and the appointment of Msgr. Marcelline Berardi as the coadjutor to Mellano with special care for the Syrians. This book is a solid piece of historical research, well documented as a result of the long and patient investigation of the author in different archives in India and abroad
